Märklineum Store, Model train museum in Göppingen, Germany
The Märklineum Store is a museum with around 3,000 square meters of exhibition space displaying model railways, historic toys, and interactive train exhibits. The displays span different technologies and designs across multiple floors and sections.
The museum documents Märklin's history from a small sheet metal toy manufacturer to an international model railway company spanning over 160 years. This transformation shows how industrial production and toy design evolved in Germany.
The collection displays children's rooms from different time periods alongside model railways, showing how toy design and family traditions have evolved in the region. Visitors can see how childhood experiences changed across generations through these exhibits.
The museum is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00 to 18:00 and Sunday from 11:00 to 18:00, with free access to the store section. Plan at least two to three hours to explore the different exhibition areas and use the interactive displays.
A highlight is a 100-square-meter model railway layout with day-night projections and sound installations depicting different periods of railway history. Visitors can watch how lighting and sounds change as trains move through varied landscapes.
