Distillery District
Distillery District is a neighborhood in Toronto built around restored factory buildings from the 1800s. More than 40 historic brick structures line cobblestone streets that now house shops, galleries, cafes, and restaurants.
James Worts and William Gooderham founded a distillery in 1832 that grew into one of the world's largest. After Prohibition and World War One, the facility declined and stopped producing alcohol in the 1990s.
The name comes from its past as a whisky-making center. Today you see local artists working in galleries and studios, with shops selling handmade goods and creative work displayed throughout the streets.
The area is easy to explore on foot and most buildings are accessible. Buses, streetcars, and the nearby Cherry Street train line offer convenient ways to reach the neighborhood.
More than 1700 films and television shows have been shot in the old buildings, including famous titles like X-Men and Chicago. This has made it a popular destination for movie fans exploring where their favorite productions were filmed.
