Kimukatsu Grand Indonesia, Japanese restaurant in Menteng, Indonesia.
Kimukatsu Grand Indonesia is a Japanese restaurant inside the Grand Indonesia shopping center in the Menteng area of Jakarta. It specializes in katsu, a dish made by layering thin slices of meat, coating them in breadcrumbs, and deep-frying them into a single cutlet.
The restaurant was opened by the Boga Group, an Indonesian food and beverage operator that brought Japanese restaurant concepts to Jakarta. Grand Indonesia was among the early locations where the group established its presence in the city center.
Kimukatsu holds Halal certification, making it a popular stop for Muslim diners curious about Japanese food in Jakarta. The menu pairs each cutlet with rice, dipping sauces, and pickled sides in the way this style of Japanese cooking is typically served.
The restaurant is inside Grand Indonesia and easy to find once you are in the shopping center. It works well as a lunch or dinner stop during a visit to the mall, as the dining area is located along one of the main walking routes inside.
Unlike a standard katsu made from a single piece of meat, each portion here is built from up to 25 thin layers stacked together before being coated and fried. The result has a different texture in the mouth compared to a regular breaded cutlet.
