WOW - World of Wine, Cultural quarter in Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal
WOW - World of Wine is a cultural quarter in Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal, located on the banks of the Douro River. It consists of several museums, restaurants, shops, and an wine school, all housed in restored warehouses.
The project was co-financed by COMPETE 2020 and recognized as a Project of National Interest. It involved the restoration of old warehouses and opened as a cultural quarter, creating hundreds of jobs in the region.
The name WOW stands for World of Wine, and the quarter celebrates Portuguese wine and gastronomy. Visitors can taste local wines, learn about cork production, and see how chocolate is made, all in one place.
The site is spread across a compact area, so you can easily walk between the different buildings. Most spaces are accessible to visitors with reduced mobility, and you can join guided tours or explore at your own pace.
The site includes a museum dedicated to cork, highlighting Portugal's role as a leading producer. Another space, the Pink Palace, offers an immersive experience focused on rosé wine.
