António Alves Calém established these wine cellars in 1859, initiating a trading route with Brazil where wines were exchanged for exotic woods.
The interactive museum inside Calém Wine Cellars presents the intricate relationship between the Douro Valley terroir and traditional Portuguese winemaking methods.
The cellars welcome visitors daily from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM, offering guided tours that conclude with tastings of various Port wine selections.
Four generations of the Calém family have supervised the production of Velhotes, which became Portugal's most purchased Port wine brand since 1934.
