The Tale of Genji Museum

The Tale of Genji Museum presents exhibits, models, and projected images that illustrate the narrative of the classical Japanese novel through multiple galleries and displays.

The museum, established in 1998, preserves and presents materials related to The Tale of Genji, written by Murasaki Shikibu during the early 11th century Heian period.

The exhibition spaces contain recreated scenes from court life, including period costumes and furnishings that demonstrate the imperial lifestyle of medieval Japan.

Located near Uji Station, the museum opens Tuesday through Sunday from 9:00 to 17:00, with a dedicated movie room showing films based on the Uji chapters.

The museum features a specialized library containing an extensive collection of books focused on The Tale of Genji, along with interactive displays about the main characters.
