Bierheuriger
The Bierheuriger is a restaurant in Salzburg that specializes in grilled meat, particularly spareribs, and local draft beers. It features multiple indoor rooms with seating for 40 to 80 people each, a bright wintergarden with about 70 seats, and a party room for up to 80 guests, plus an outdoor garden area accommodating about 220 people beneath old chestnut trees.
The restaurant opened in 1996 and quickly became a popular gathering place for locals and visitors. Its house beer, called 96er Hausbier, has been brewed since the mid-1990s and remains a signature part of the establishment.
The name combines the Austrian tradition of a heuriger tavern with a focus on beer and hearty food. Today it serves as a gathering place where locals and visitors meet to enjoy classic Austrian dishes in a relaxed, unpretentious setting.
Located on Gaisbergstrasse in Salzburg, it is easy to reach with flat access or a step no higher than 1 inch (3 cm), a ramp, and a sturdy door for partial wheelchair accessibility. The place is open daily from late morning to late evening, with hot food served from around noon until late night, and visitors can choose indoor seating or the garden depending on the weather.
A special feature is the selection of seven different draft beers that rotate regularly, giving visitors a chance to taste local brewing styles. The garden with its old chestnut trees creates natural shade in summer, making the outdoor area a favorite spot for both locals and travelers.
