Imperial Hotel Tokyo
Imperial Hotel Tokyo is a large hotel in the heart of Chiyoda, located directly beside Hibiya Park. The building consists of a main wing and a tower added later, together offering around 900 rooms and suites across different categories.
The hotel was founded in 1890 to receive foreign visitors during Japan's early opening to the outside world. A previous building on the site was designed by American architect Frank Lloyd Wright and completed in 1923, before the current structure was built in its place.
The hotel's name reflects its position near the Imperial Palace, just a short walk away. Inside, a traditional tea room offers visitors a chance to take part in a Japanese tea ceremony, a practice still observed with care today.
The hotel sits between Hibiya Park and the Ginza district, within walking distance of several subway stations. Staying on one of the upper floors of the tower gives a broader view over the surrounding city area.
Frank Lloyd Wright's version of the hotel survived the 1923 earthquake largely intact, which drew international attention at the time. The current building keeps a small tribute to that era: parts of the original lobby furnishings from Wright's structure are still on display today.
