Old Slave Mart Museum, History museum in Charleston, United States.
The Old Slave Mart Museum occupies a former auction building where enslaved people were sold between 1856 and 1863 in downtown Charleston.
After the 1808 ban on international slave trade, Charleston became a major center for domestic slave trading, with numerous auction facilities along State Street.
The museum exhibits document the experiences of enslaved individuals through artifacts, personal accounts, and historical records that shaped South Carolina's African American heritage.
Located at 6 Chalmers Street, the museum welcomes visitors Monday through Saturday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM with admission fees ranging from 7 to 8 dollars.
The building stands as South Carolina's last remaining slave auction facility and became the first African American slave museum in the United States in 1938.
