Foteviken Museum, Archaeological museum in Höllviken peninsula, Sweden
Foteviken Museum is an open-air site in Vellinge Municipality featuring a reconstructed Viking settlement with traditional buildings and outdoor exhibits. The facility displays archaeological finds and educational displays related to Nordic history and maritime heritage from the Viking Age.
The museum was established in 1995 following archaeological excavations of Viking-era ships discovered in Foteviken Bay and connected to the 1134 naval battle in the area. This research foundation led to the current reconstruction and interpretation of how Viking communities lived and worked.
Staff members dressed in period clothing demonstrate traditional Viking crafts like blacksmithing, weaving, and pottery throughout the site. These living demonstrations give visitors direct experience with daily activities and skills that shaped communities during the Viking Age.
The site operates on a seasonal schedule and offers guided tours and educational workshops for visitors of all ages. Allow several hours to fully explore the reconstructed buildings, craft demonstrations, and outdoor areas.
Visitors can participate in hands-on workshops learning how Vikings crafted tools and objects using authentic historical methods and materials. These practical experiences reveal the technical skills and ingenuity that enabled Viking communities to thrive.
