Palais des Ducs et États de Bourgogne, Historic castle and museum in central Dijon, France
Palais des Ducs et États de Bourgogne is a castle and museum in central Dijon combining Gothic and Classical elements. The building features two prominent towers, with the Philippe le Bon Tower at approximately 46 meters high standing above the city center.
The building grew from a simple residence in the 3rd century to become the seat of the powerful Dukes of Burgundy during the 14th and 15th centuries. This period shaped much of the architecture and made it a center of regional influence.
The palace houses the Museum of Fine Arts, displaying works that tell the story of Burgundian history. Visitors see paintings, sculptures, and objects from different periods that reflect the region's past influence and artistic traditions.
The palace is open daily except Tuesdays and offers visitors guided tours in multiple languages. The building combines city offices with museum exhibitions, allowing visitors to explore both areas during their visit.
The palace preserves medieval ducal kitchens from the 15th century where meals for the duke's court were once prepared. These rooms offer a rare glimpse into the daily operations of a princely residence of that era.
