Silver Fork Lodge
Silver Fork Lodge is a mountain hotel and restaurant in Big Cottonwood Canyon built with heavy wood beams and traditional ski lodge styling. The building features cozy rooms with wooden furniture, fireplaces, and a restaurant serving breakfast and lunch daily.
The building opened as a restaurant in 1947 and long served as a gathering place in the mountain region. In 1993, Dan Knopp purchased the property and made major improvements including a reinforced roof for heavy snow loads and kitchen expansion.
The name Silver Fork Lodge comes from the silver fork handles on doors, a small detail added by the current owner. Guests experience the place as a mountain home where simple, hearty meals and friendly service define the visit.
The location sits in Big Cottonwood Canyon, just a short drive from two ski areas and accessible year-round. Visitors should note that the area receives heavy snow in winter and the mountain road can present varying driving conditions.
Breakfast relies on a sourdough starter over 50 years old for homemade pancakes that are deliberately uneven in shape. This imperfect presentation is part of the rustic charm and authentic mountain kitchen spirit of the place.
