Lake Ledro Stilt house Museum, Science museum on Lake Ledro, Italy
The Lake Ledro Stilt House Museum displays over 660 archaeological objects from prehistoric pile-dwelling settlements, including tools, weapons, and household items from the Bronze Age. The objects give a detailed view of daily life in these early communities around the water.
The discovery took place in 1929 when construction of a hydropower plant lowered the water level, revealing wooden posts from ancient settlements. This unexpected uncovering made these prehistoric communities visible to science for the first time.
The exhibits show how people lived here thousands of years ago, with their cooking tools and crafting methods used right by the water. You see how everyday and practical their lives were, not so different from today.
The museum is located in Molina di Ledro and offers guided tours and workshops for school groups and other visitors. Outside you can see three reconstructed houses on wooden platforms that show how these early people lived.
Many of the displayed objects are remarkably well preserved because wet mud protected them from decay over thousands of years. This makes them rare survivors that would otherwise have been lost.
