Palafitte di Ledro

The Lake Ledro pile dwellings are remains of a prehistoric settlement featuring wooden stake structures along the eastern shore of the lake. The site sits at about 651 meters elevation and stretches approximately 160 meters along the water's edge.

The settlement developed during the Bronze Age and later became submerged until a drop in water level during the 1920s exposed the remains. This discovery helped researchers understand how people lived in this early period.

The settlement served as a trading hub where people from surrounding regions exchanged bronze goods and tools with one another. The artifacts reveal daily activities and how residents engaged with their neighbors.

The site is best reached on foot or by local paths clearly marked from the village of Ledro. Spring and autumn offer the most pleasant conditions for exploring the area and nearby museum.

Among the discoveries are complete clothing items made from plant and animal fibers that reveal rare details about textile production. Such organic materials rarely survive, making these finds scientifically significant.
