Letenský zámeček, Restaurant and civic building in Letná Park, Prague, Czech Republic
Letenský zámeček is a restaurant and civic building set inside Letná Park in Prague, designed in a neo-Renaissance style that recalls an Italian villa. A square tower rises on its eastern side, and the facade is marked by semi-circular windows that run along its length.
The building dates from 1863, when architect Vojtěch Ignác Ullmann designed it on the site of an observation house from 1715 that French troops had burned down in 1742. The new structure gave the hilltop a permanent social and dining destination that it has kept ever since.
The terrace behind the building draws locals and visitors who come to sit above the Vltava river and watch the city spread below. The dining rooms inside sometimes host art shows and live music, making it a place where food and culture meet naturally.
The restaurant has indoor rooms and an outdoor terrace, and the terrace tends to fill up on warm days so arriving early helps. For group visits or special occasions, booking ahead is a good idea to make sure you get a spot.
A wooden horse carousel built in 1894 stands behind the building and is listed as a protected historical monument. It is one of the few surviving carousels of its kind in Central Europe, and most visitors walk past it without realizing what it is.
