Palazzo Mirto

Palazzo Mirto is a noble residence in Palermo featuring 21 rooms decorated with silk wallpapers, velvet furnishings, frescoed ceilings, and marble floors. The interior spaces showcase different stylistic periods and influences, from classical ornaments to exotic decorations that reflect the tastes of the wealthy families who lived there.

The palace was owned and lived in by the Filangeri family, who relocated from Naples and occupied it for four centuries before departing in 1982. This transition to public ownership led to its transformation into a museum where visitors can experience how the family once resided there.

The Chinese Salon displays black lacquer decorations and ceiling paintings showing European aristocrats observing this oriental-styled chamber. The wall treatments and furnishings reflect how wealthy families of that era brought their fascination with distant cultures into their private spaces.

The museum is located in central Palermo and requires advance booking before your visit. Guided tours are offered in multiple languages, making it easy to learn about the rooms and their decoration while walking through them.

The Salottino di Diana features a rotating statue of Apollo that reveals a hidden corridor leading from this room. This secret feature likely served the family as a private passage or hidden element within their home.
