Archimede & Leonardo da Vinci Museum, Science museum in Syracuse, Italy
Archimedes and Leonardo da Vinci Museum is a science museum in Syracuse with over 60 working models of inventions from both geniuses. The machines were reconstructed with historically accurate materials and mechanisms, showing how their ideas worked in practice.
The collection was created through the craftsmanship of the Niccolai family from Florence, who built working replicas of Leonardo's engineering designs and Archimedes' mathematical instruments. This project connects two different periods - ancient times and the Renaissance - under one roof.
The museum shows how the scientific ideas of these two inventors shaped how people understood mechanics and mathematics. Visitors can see how ancient principles echo in everyday functions.
The museum is located in the Ortigia neighborhood and opens daily from 10:30 AM to 7:00 PM. Most models are hands-on and you can experiment with them, and there are regular workshops where you can assemble small machines yourself.
The W Leonardo workshop program lets you build machines from wood and metal using historical plans and experience real mechanical principles firsthand. This gives you a practical insight into how inventors worked and thought in those times.
