Kartal Municipality Story Museum
The Kartal Municipality Story Museum is a museum in Kartal dedicated to stories and toys that opened in 2017. The building looks like an open storybook and contains old toys, early books from various countries, and exhibits about the history of fairy tales.
The museum was founded in 2017 through the efforts of the Kartal Municipality and support from poet and writer Sunay Akın, who collected toys and stories from around the world. The building was originally old and deteriorating but was restored and transformed into a lively, colorful space.
The museum displays stories from Turkey and around the world through old toys and books that have been part of childhood for generations. Specially designed areas invite visitors to imagine and bring stories to life.
The museum is located in the Yakacık neighborhood of Kartal and is easily accessible by public transportation such as metro, bus, or ferry. Admission is free, and workshops and activities can be booked in advance by phone.
A wax figure of Hans Christian Andersen and a copy of his fairy tale book from 1850 are displayed in the museum, marking the first exhibition of its kind in Turkey. The garden also features statues of famous fairy tale characters that visitors can experience up close.
