The Fonseca Port Wine Cellars maintain a temperature-controlled environment in large wooden casks where Port wines mature and develop their characteristics over time.
Established in 1815, Fonseca released its first Vintage Port in 1840, marking the beginning of a tradition of exceptional wine production in the Douro Valley.
The cellars offer guided tours where visitors learn about traditional foot treading methods and the specific grape varieties used in Port wine production.
Tours and tastings operate daily from 11 AM to 7 PM, with the last admission at 6 PM, at Rua do Choupelo 84 in Vila Nova de Gaia.
Fonseca became the first Port wine producer to create wines made entirely from organically grown grapes across their three estates: Cruzeiro, Panascal, and Santo António.
