Olympos Ancient City

The remains of Olympos spread along both sides of a river valley, featuring ancient walls, tombs, temples, and a Roman theater leading to the Mediterranean Sea.

Founded in the 3rd century BCE, Olympos became one of six prominent cities in the Lycian League, holding three votes in regional governance until 43 CE.

The city produced notable figures like Bishop Methodius, an early Christian theologian who led the community until his martyrdom in 311 CE under Emperor Galerius.

The archaeological site contains multiple entry points from Olympos and Cirali beaches, with stone-paved walkways connecting different sections of the ancient ruins.

The Captain Eudomus Sarcophagus displays intricate carvings of an ancient ship, providing insights into maritime practices of the Mediterranean classical period.
