Olympos Aerial Tram, Aerial tramway in Kemer, Turkey
Olympos Aerial Tram is a cable car system spanning about 4,400 meters (14,400 feet) through the mountains above Kemer, rising to an elevation of 2,365 meters (7,760 feet). The installation features two cabins that each carry around 80 passengers, supported by four pylons connecting the base station to the mountain terminal.
The cable car system was completed and opened in 2006 by Austrian engineering company Doppelmayr Garaventa Group. This project created the first modern link between the coastal resort area and the high mountain terrain above it.
The cable car provides access to the Beydağları Coastal Mountains, where visitors experience traditional mountain life across different seasons. The journey itself has become an important way for people to connect with the high-altitude landscape above their coastal towns.
Each cabin holds about 80 passengers and the ride takes roughly 15 minutes, allowing regular departures throughout the day. Bring a jacket or windbreaker, as conditions at the top are significantly cooler and windier than at the base station.
The system is equipped with a hydrostatic emergency power mechanism that keeps it operating during power failures, protecting passenger safety. This backup system allows the tram to continue functioning even when the main electrical supply is disrupted.
