Bimmah Sinkhole, Natural pool in Muscat region, Oman

The Bimmah sinkhole is a natural cavity on the Omani coast filled with turquoise water, forming a refreshing oasis in the surrounding landscape. The opening reveals layered rock formations along its rim, while the clear water below invites visitors to experience its depth and coolness.

The hole formed through natural erosion when the upper limestone layer collapsed due to water and mineral dissolution over thousands of years. This geological process created a stable structure that remains today as a distinctive feature of the Omani coastal landscape.

The site is called Hawiyyat Najm locally, which translates to 'deep well of the falling star' and reflects old beliefs about its cosmic origins. Visitors can feel this mythological connection when standing around the turquoise water and taking in the place's story.

The site is accessible via the coastal road toward Sur and offers picnic spots and restroom facilities for visitors. The best time to visit is early morning or late afternoon, when the sun does not shine directly into the cavity and swimming is more comfortable.

Small fish inhabit the clear waters and offer swimmers unexpected close encounters with wildlife. This underground habitat shows how animals have adapted perfectly to such isolated aquatic spaces.
