Palais Garnier, Opera house in 9th arrondissement, France
The Palais Garnier displays a Napoleon III architectural design with multicolored marble facades, gold ornaments, and Greek mythological statues on its exterior walls.
Emperor Napoleon III commissioned architect Charles Garnier to construct this 1,979-seat opera house between 1861 and 1875 during the grand transformation of Paris.
The theater served as the primary venue for Paris Opera and Ballet performances until 1989, when operations partially shifted to Opera Bastille.
Visitors can explore the monument daily from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with guided tours available and multimedia tablets offering detailed information about the building.
A 7-ton bronze and crystal chandelier hangs from the ceiling of the auditorium, which inspired part of the Phantom of the Opera story.

In the city, the Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie allows children to explore technology and science practically, with its planetarium and experimental zones. Families can also visit the Paris Zoological Park, which displays 180 species in habitats recreating different ecosystems, or explore the National Museum of Natural History with its fossil and mineral collections. For aquatic activities, Aquaboulevard has slides and wave pools under a roof. The Grevin Museum exhibits over 200 wax statues of famous personalities, while the Museum of Illusions engages viewers with interactive visual installations. La Villette Park combines green spaces, playgrounds, and cultural venues across 55 hectares.
The most important opera houses of the 19th century form an architectural group that reflects the history of classical music. These buildings, located in major world capitals, showcase various styles: neoclassical, neobaroque, modern. Their architectures reflect the evolution of acoustic techniques and performing arts. From the Teatro San Carlo in Naples to the Palais Garnier in Paris, these buildings are references in theatrical architecture.
