Plage de Kermyl

Plage de Kermyl is a coastal beach in Brittany with light sand that curves gently along the shore, opening to views of the Glénan islands in the distance. The water shifts in color from pale turquoise to deep blue depending on light and weather.

The beach became important to fishing communities in Fouesnant during the 19th century, when families established their livelihoods along this coast. Maritime activity has remained central to the place ever since.

Local fishermen work the shore during low tide, using methods for gathering shellfish that have remained largely unchanged for centuries. This ongoing practice shapes how people experience and relate to this coastal space today.

The beach provides bicycle racks, restrooms, picnic tables, and parking within easy walking distance from the water. Visiting at low tide reveals shallow areas and rocky pools, while high tide brings deeper water suitable for swimming.

Low tide creates natural swimming pools among the rocks, each one holding small marine creatures and seaweed ecosystems normally hidden from view. These temporary basins reveal an hidden aspect of the beach that exists for only part of the day.
