Révolte de Fouesnant, Civil uprising landmark in Fouesnant, France.

The Révolte de Fouesnant was an armed confrontation between peasants and government troops in 1792 in Brittany. The clash took place near the Kerbader chapel and involved hundreds of people from surrounding villages who gathered to resist new laws.

The uprising began in 1792 when farmer Alain Nedellec led village residents against the French Revolution's new administrative measures. This was one of the first major resistances to the revolution's push to centralize control from Paris.

The uprising reflected how rural Breton communities experienced and resisted the revolutionary government's new policies. It shows the tension that existed between villages and authorities trying to enforce laws from distant administrative centers.

Visitors can explore the sites of the uprising between Fouesnant town center and the Kerbader chapel, where various markers and monuments mark important locations. Daytime visits work best for understanding the layout and seeing the commemorative markers along the route.

An 1886 painting by artist Jules Girardet documents the dramatic scenes of this uprising and is displayed today at the Museum of Fine Arts in Quimper. The artwork is one of the few visual records that captured this lesser-known moment from Breton history.
