Ateljée Bar Hotel Torni, Rooftop bar in central Helsinki, Finland

Ateljée Bar occupies the 12th and 13th floors of Hotel Torni, offering views across Helsinki, the port, and the Baltic Sea from a height of 70 meters. The space features large windows and modern bar fixtures arranged to maximize the panorama.

Hotel Torni opened in 1931 with this bar from its start, becoming the first rooftop drinking spot in Helsinki to offer panoramic city views. The location quickly gained popularity among visitors and residents.

The bar displays rotating shows of work from emerging Finnish artists on its interior walls, showing how Helsinki's art world connects with its hospitality. Guests encounter local creators while enjoying their visit.

The bar opens around midday with extended hours as evening approaches, particularly on weekends when it stays late. Stairs and an elevator lead upward, with seating available both indoors and outdoors depending on weather and season.

A cast iron spiral staircase leads to the uppermost levels, creating an unusual arrival experience. This historic staircase connects the building's past with the climb to the viewing platforms.

What to do in Helsinki: saunas, islands, urban culture

Helsinki offers a unique mix of Nordic traditions and modern urban spaces. The city features public saunas like Sompasauna by the sea, where entry is free thanks to volunteer work, as well as century-old market halls such as Hakaniemi, built in 1914. Surrounding islands like Sisä-Hattu allow visitors to view ancient rock carvings in preserved natural surroundings, while Kivinokka beach provides direct access to the sea from a wooded area. Downtown combines various architectural styles, from granite churches to wooden buildings like Kamppi Chapel, a quiet spot amid the city's activity. Art enthusiasts will find the graffiti wall at Suvilahti, a legal space for artistic expression, and those seeking less-known locations will discover themed bars like Trillby & Chadwick, decorated in the 1920s style. A few kilometers away, Liesjärvi National Park offers hiking trails through forests abundant in berries and mushrooms, while the abandoned villas of Kruunuvuori reflect a bygone era.
