One Mile Beach

One Mile Beach is a 1.3-kilometer (0.8 mile) sandy stretch in Port Stephens that curves toward the southeast and sits between Fingal Head and Moana Point. The shoreline features shallow waters that slope gently, and the beach lies within Tomaree National Park boundaries.

The beach became a popular recreation spot from the 1950s onward after lifeguard patrols were established and facilities were constructed. Development focused first on the southern section near the caravan park, creating the foundation for today's infrastructure.

Surfers and swimmers use the beach regularly, with local clubs maintaining patrols that educate visitors about water safety and help them understand conditions. The designated swimming zones marked by flags help everyone assess conditions properly.

Parking, showers, restrooms, and picnic areas with grills are available near the caravan park at the southern end. Check the flags marking swimming zones before entering the water to ensure you choose safe areas for swimming.

Tall sand dunes about 30 meters (98 feet) high stretch roughly 400 meters (1,300 feet) inland at the northern end of the beach. These natural ridges create a striking contrast between the shoreline and the surrounding landscape, giving the location a distinct geographic character.
