African Safari, Safari park in Cascavelle, Mauritius.
African Safari is a large nature reserve covering 250 hectares in Cascavelle with white rhinos, zebras, antelopes, kudus, impalas, oryx, and waterbucks living in open habitats. Visitors move through different zones to see how these animals live in spaces that mimic their natural surroundings.
The reserve started as a sanctuary for birds and later grew into a larger wildlife park featuring African species brought to the island. This expansion made conservation education possible in Mauritius through direct animal observation.
The park shows how local people care for wild animals and learn from their behavior through hands-on observation. Visitors witness conservation practices in action as they move through habitats alongside the animals.
The park covers a lot of ground and requires time to explore thoroughly, so transportation options like buses and vehicles are helpful for covering distances. Comfortable shoes and sun protection are essential since much of the visit involves being outdoors in open areas.
Visitors can meet Ella and Benji, two white rhinos, up close and even feed them under professional guidance. This hands-on contact with the animals is a memorable experience that sets the park apart.
