Trois Mamelles mountain

Trois Mamelles is a summit in western Mauritius with three distinct peaks rising sharply above the surrounding landscape. The three elevations are arranged along a narrow ridgeline that runs through the region.

French settlers named the mountain after observing the three peaks, which they likened to a maternal figure in their own cultural tradition. This naming reflects how colonial perspectives shaped the geographic terminology used across the island.

Metal handles are fixed into the rock face near the central peak to assist hikers on the steepest sections. These handholds make some of the most challenging passages more manageable for those making the climb.
