Cango Wildlife Ranch, Wildlife ranch and conservation center in Oudtshoorn, South Africa
Cango Wildlife Ranch is a facility housing more than 90 animal species across multiple enclosures, including cheetahs, lions, tigers, crocodiles, and flying foxes. The grounds feature several viewing areas where visitors can observe the animals at close range.
The ranch was founded in 1976 by Andrew and Glenn Eriksen as a crocodile breeding facility, becoming the country's first crocodile show farm in 1977. Over time, it expanded to include many other animal species and evolved into a major wildlife viewing destination.
The Cheetah Preservation Foundation, established at the ranch in 1988, leads conservation efforts and educational programs about African wildlife protection.
The grounds are open daily and offer guided tours and hands-on animal encounters suitable for different interests. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes and prepare for changing weather conditions.
A highlight is the chance to dive in a specially built cage underwater with crocodiles and watch the reptiles through reinforced panels. This experience offers an immediate view of how the animals behave from their own perspective.
