La Ferme de Découverte Saint-André, Petting zoo in Saint-André, France
La Ferme de Découverte Saint-André is a petting zoo set on about 3 hectares with roughly 300 animals including ponies, donkeys, European fallow deer, and Vietnamese pigs living in open enclosures. Visitors can observe and interact with the animals throughout the grounds.
The farm works with the 'Elevage d'antan' association to protect endangered farm breeds, particularly Thônes and Marthod cattle that face extinction. This conservation work has become a central mission of the farm.
Visitors experience farm life directly by bottle-feeding lambs, helping care for geese, and riding in guided wagons. These hands-on activities give people a feel for how a working farm operates.
The farm is easy to navigate since animals live in open enclosures throughout the grounds. Comfortable shoes are recommended as you will walk on uneven terrain and natural surfaces.
From mid-June to mid-September, the farm offers special feeding sessions where visitors hand-feed the animals up close. These seasonal programs create particularly close encounters with the farm residents.
