Blackberry Farm
Blackberry Farm is a theme park in Aurora that recreates pioneer life through hands-on activities and exhibits. The grounds contain historic buildings, rides including a steam train and carousel, demonstration areas for blacksmithing and pottery, and play spaces like an adventure playground with climbing structures and a zip line.
The site displays buildings from different time periods: a pioneer cabin from the 1840s, a house from the 1890s, a pottery shop from the 1850s, and a blacksmith shop from the early 20th century. Together these structures tell the story of different phases of daily life in 19th century America.
The name comes from blackberry bushes that grow on the property. Visitors can see today how craftspeople demonstrate traditional skills like blacksmithing and pottery, keeping older ways of making things alive.
The park has multiple restroom areas with modern facilities, changing tables, and automatic toilets near the entrance, while simpler bathrooms are located near animal areas. Visitors can bring their own food and drinks to enjoy at picnic tables, or purchase snacks and meals from a food stand on the grounds.
On certain Fridays each month, the park offers sensory-friendly nights with calmer lighting and softer music for children with sensory needs. This shows the park intentionally creates spaces for visitors who find typical busy environments overwhelming rather than enjoyable.
