Umm Suqeim Night Swimming Beach
Umm Suqeim Night Swimming Beach is a public beach in Dubai featuring a long stretch of sand and a view of the distinctive Burj Al Arab Hotel. The water is shallow and clear near the shore and is monitored by two lifeguard towers, with designated zones for swimming and water sports such as surfing.
The beach was transformed into a night swimming facility in 2017 when Dubai installed solar-powered lights to provide safety for swimmers after sunset. The facility was later expanded and now stretches nearly a thousand meters of shoreline, making Dubai the first place to allow night swimming at public beaches.
The beach takes its name from the Umm Suqeim district and is also called Sunset Beach by locals. Visitors can observe how people gather in the evening to watch the sky, swim, or simply walk along the water and enjoy the city lights reflecting on the surface.
The beach is easily accessible by taxi, car, or bus, with parking nearby and the nearest metro station at First Gulf Bank within short distance. Visitors should note that modest clothing is required, swimming after sunset is only permitted in lit areas, and lights turn off at sunrise.
A remarkable feature is the beach library where visitors can borrow books for free and read with views of the water, even at night under the lights. This unusual combination of reading and coastal life is rarely found elsewhere in Dubai.
