埔頭街

Putou Street is a narrow pedestrian zone in Lukang featuring traditional red brick buildings with wooden doors and ornate architectural details from the Qing period. The street preserves its original curved layout and displays classical Taiwanese building elements throughout.

During the Qing Dynasty, this area functioned as a trading hub connected to a river port where merchants exchanged goods between Taiwan and mainland China. The settlement grew as a major point for commerce in the region.

The street displays traditional craftsmanship through its preserved buildings and decorative elements that reflect local artistic practices. Walking through, you see how residents and shopkeepers have maintained these structures as part of their daily lives.

The street is easy to reach on foot and located centrally in Lukang, so visitors can reach it within minutes from the town center. The terrain is flat and suitable for walking, though narrow passages require comfortable footwear.

The street features an intentional curved design with bends that were meant to block winds and deter intruders during the trading era. This historical planning remains visible in every corner and shapes how visitors experience moving through the space.
