Katthult, Tourist attraction in Vimmerby municipality, Sweden.
Katthult recreates an authentic early 20th-century Swedish farm featuring hay fields, century-old oak trees, a winding stream flowing into a shallow lake, and preserved traditional farm buildings including barns and outhouses.
This genuine 19th-century farm, officially called Gibberyds Gård, was selected in the 1970s as the filming location for Emil movies because its appearance perfectly matched Astrid Lindgren's story descriptions.
As part of Astrid Lindgren's World theme park, Katthult celebrates Swedish rural heritage by combining literary storytelling with historical representation of traditional farming customs and countryside childhood experiences.
Open from June to August daily from 10:00 to 18:00, the farm allows visitors to freely explore exterior buildings and features a shop selling souvenirs, refreshments, and local handicrafts.
Visitors can crawl through an underground cellar and explore Emil's workshop filled with carved wooden figures, faithfully recreating the adventurous elements described in Lindgren's beloved tales.
