Eclipse, Swing ride in Norra innerstadens, Stockholm, Sweden
Eclipse is a tall swing ride at Gröna Lund in Stockholm, Sweden, with twelve double-seat swings hanging from long chains. The steel structure has a bright, modern look and a heavy concrete base, and from the top of the 122-metre tower riders look out over the city streets and rooftops.
Eclipse opened in 2013 and was built by the Austrian company Funtime, known for creating StarFlyer towers around the world. Its arrival added a new height to the Gröna Lund skyline, making it one of the tallest rides of its kind at the time.
During concert evenings at Gröna Lund, spectators can see Eclipse transformed into an elevated viewing balcony for guests with mobility needs. This temporary change turns a normal thrill ride into a quiet listening spot above the crowd.
Plan to arrive early because the ride holds only 24 people at a time and the queue can fill quickly during the afternoon. Children need a certain height to ride, and smaller kids must be accompanied by an adult.
The ride reaches a speed of about 70 kilometers per hour while swinging in a wide circle, yet the chains and structure are designed to keep the movement smooth rather than jerky. Because it weighs around 910 tons, the base must be anchored with many bolts to hold such a tall moving load.
