Ice Castle, Seasonal tourist attraction in Greater Strathcona, Canada.
The Ice Castle is a seasonal structure built from snow and ice featuring guest rooms, carved corridors, and a bar where all furnishings and architectural elements are made from solid blocks of ice. Every surface, from walls to stairways, is sculpted or constructed entirely from frozen materials.
The structure was inspired by the North American ice hotel movement that emerged in the early 2000s as a response to demand for innovative winter attractions. This concept helped boost winter tourism in Canada's coldest regions.
The chapel inside serves as a real venue for winter weddings, where couples exchange vows surrounded by glowing ice walls. The space also hosts ice carving demonstrations where visitors watch craftspeople shape frozen blocks into detailed sculptures.
Visitors should come between January and March when the site operates, with indoor temperatures around -5°C to -7°C (23°F to 19°F). Warm clothing such as thick coats, gloves, and hats is necessary to stay comfortable while exploring.
The entire structure is completely rebuilt from scratch each year, with craftspeople designing and implementing a completely new artistic theme every season. This means each visit reveals different architecture and decoration compared to previous years.
