Parque apícola Xkopek, Tourist attraction in Valladolid, Mexico

Parque Apícola Xkopek is a tourist attraction in Valladolid, in the Mexican state of Yucatán, built around the practice of Maya beekeeping. The grounds include green areas with trees, traditional beehives, wooden cabins, a restaurant called La Colmena, and a pool.

Xkopek is rooted in the ancient Maya practice of keeping melipona bees, which has been part of life in the Yucatán region for centuries. This tradition was passed down through generations and remains the foundation of the park today.

The melipona bee, a stingless species kept by the Maya for generations, is at the center of every visit to Xkopek. At the end of a guided walk, visitors can taste different types of honey produced on site.

Visiting in the early morning or late afternoon is more comfortable, as the heat in Yucatán can be strong during midday. Light clothing, sun protection, and closed shoes are recommended for walking through the grounds and around the hives.

The melipona bee produces a honey that is more liquid and less sweet than regular honey, with a distinct flavor tied to the local flowers. Products like pollen and propolis from these hives are sold directly on site, without any added chemicals.
