Cenote Xkeken, Natural underground pool and museum in Valladolid, Mexico
The limestone cavern contains a circular pool of fresh water measuring 25 meters in diameter and reaching depths of 20 meters.
The cenote received its name when a local farmer discovered the cave entrance after his pig disappeared into the underground chamber.
Ancient Maya people considered this water-filled cave a sacred portal to communicate with their deities and performed ceremonial offerings.
The site remains open daily from 9 AM to 6 PM, with entrance fees of 80 pesos for adults and 50 pesos for children.
Natural openings in the limestone ceiling create light beams that illuminate the water, revealing intricate stalactite formations above the pool.
