Cenote Cristal, Natural sinkhole near Tulum, Mexico
Cenote Cristal reaches depths of 15 meters and contains transparent freshwater pools created through limestone bedrock erosion, forming a large swimming area.
This cenote belongs to a system of approximately 10,000 water-filled sinkholes across the Yucatan Peninsula, formed over millions of years of geological activity.
The Maya civilization used cenotes as water sources and sacred spaces, considering them passages to the underworld where they performed ceremonies and offerings.
The cenote opens daily from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with an entrance fee of 200 Mexican pesos that includes access to both Cenote Cristal and Escondido.
The water temperature remains constant throughout the year, creating conditions for diverse fish species and underwater plant life to thrive.
