Salto Curet Waterfall
Salto Curet is a waterfall system in Maricao, Puerto Rico that consists of several tiers descending through the forest. The cascade pools are surrounded by distinctive reddish-orange clay soil that colors the water flowing through them.
The waterfall system formed through erosion over thousands of years as water carved its way through the mountain rock. This natural force continues to shape the landscape and the forest terrain of Maricao.
The waterfall serves as a gathering spot for locals who treasure it as part of their connection to the surrounding mountains. People come here regularly to spend time outdoors and enjoy what the landscape offers.
Visitors should drive Road 425 to its end and then walk to the river to hike upstream through the forest. The terrain is uneven and wet, so proper footwear and attention to weather conditions are important for a safe visit.
The water takes on an unusual orange-red color from minerals in the surrounding clay soil, setting it apart from typical waterfalls. This natural coloring comes from the specific mineral content of the local geology.
