The Turtle River Falls & Gardens, Gardens and waterfalls in Ocho Rios, Jamaica
The Turtle River Falls & Gardens features fourteen waterfalls, fish ponds, and a large bird aviary spread across tropical grounds. The site contains nearly a hundred plant and tree varieties arranged throughout the landscape.
The grounds opened in 1987 as Carinosa Gardens and were redesigned and renamed in 1991. This transformation brought the current layout with waterfalls and bird sanctuary into existence.
Local plant varieties grow here and have been used traditionally for healing purposes in the community. Walking through the gardens shows how these plants fit into the daily life and knowledge of the island.
The grounds are open Monday through Saturday from 9 AM to 4 PM, with Sunday hours extending to 5 PM. Guided tours last over an hour and cover the main areas of the property.
Visitors can feed hundreds of exotic birds directly by hand while walking through an enclosed natural setting. This hands-on interaction with the animals sets this place apart from typical garden experiences.
