Neemrana Fort-Palace
Description
Neemrana Fort-Palace is a 15th-century structure set on a hilltop in the Aravalli mountains that spans a large area with commanding views. The building combines traditional Rajasthani architecture with modern interior features, featuring stone and brick walls, towers, terraces, balconies, and arched windows throughout its layout.
History
The fort was built in 1464 by the Chauhan family and served as their third major seat for generations. Following independence in 1947, the structure fell into partial decline until extensive restoration began in the 1980s, leading to its opening as a hotel in 1991.
Culture
The name Neemrana comes from a chieftain named Nimola Me, whose territory was later taken over by the Chauhan family. Today, guests stay in rooms that blend Rajasthani elements with colonial furniture, reflecting how people once lived in this space.
Practical
The fort sits directly along the main highway between Delhi and Jaipur, making it easily accessible by road for travelers passing through Rajasthan. Bring swimwear since the grounds include pools, and wear comfortable shoes because exploring involves numerous steps, uneven stairs, and varied walking paths throughout the property.
Did you know?
The property features a zip-line adventure course that runs over the outer walls and terrain, pairing adrenaline-pumping activity with a 500-year-old fort. This mix of history and thrill appeals to visitors seeking to blend past with something daring.
