Neemrana, Historical town in Alwar district, Rajasthan, India.
Neemrana is a small town in Alwar district, Rajasthan, India, positioned along the highway connecting Delhi and Jaipur. A fifteenth-century fort sits on a rocky hill above the town and forms the most recognizable landmark of the area.
The Chauhan dynasty built the fort in 1464 as a defensive structure in a region often contested by neighboring rulers. It later served as a residence for local chiefs before being converted into a hotel in the twentieth century.
The fort palace displays traditional Rajasthani architectural elements through its intricate jharokhas, carved pillars, and painted frescoes from different periods.
The town sits roughly midway between Delhi and Jaipur, making it a convenient stop during a longer journey. Buses halt regularly on the main road, and the fort can be reached on foot or by local vehicle from the town center.
An old water collection system inside the fort captures rainwater through channels carved into the rock and directs it into underground cisterns. This setup worked for centuries and supplied residents with water even during long dry spells.
