Aghjkaberd, Medieval fortress in Tavush Province, Armenia
The fortress stands on a mountain peak surrounded by dense forests and steep cliffs with protective walls and towers on all sides.
During medieval times, the fortress, known as Cayen, served as a residence for Armenian princes and controlled the surrounding administrative territory.
Within the fortress grounds, visitors can explore a medieval church, residential buildings, water reservoirs, and a bath complex constructed from basalt stone.
The fortress remains are accessible through a 16-kilometer journey southwest from the city of Ijevan in the Tavush region of Armenia.
The fortress name translates to Girl's Fortress, referring to a noble woman who commanded her army and successfully defended against numerous attacks.
