2018 Commonwealth Games Athletes Village, Athletes accommodation complex in Southport, Gold Coast, Australia
The 2018 Commonwealth Games Athletes Village is a residential complex in Southport on the Gold Coast designed to house athletes during the sporting event. It comprises 1252 dwellings spread across 18 buildings, including one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments alongside three-bedroom townhouses, all situated on approximately 30 hectares with shops, dining areas, and community spaces integrated throughout.
The village was built as part of a major infrastructure development for the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast and was designed from the start to remain as permanent housing after the event. Following the Games, it transformed into a standard residential neighborhood serving thousands of residents.
The village design incorporates elements from three Australian architectural firms - Archipelago, Arkhefield, and ARM Architecture - with input from Dutch company Arcadis.
The complex is conveniently located near Southport's beaches and shopping areas and is easily accessible by public transport. Visitors will find gardens, sports courts, and wide pathways that are pleasant for walking and cycling through the grounds.
During the Games, the site functioned as a self-contained village with its own post office, media centers, and security system serving several thousand people. After the event, many of these specialized facilities were converted into regular community services for everyday residents.
