L'Alpage, Mountain restaurant in Beaufort, France
L'Alpage is a mountain restaurant in Arêches-Beaufort, sitting at around 6,500 feet (2,000 meters) among alpine pastures in the Beaufortain area of France. It sits right on the ski slopes and has an indoor dining room as well as a south-facing terrace open to the sun.
The restaurant grew out of the tradition of mountain huts serving skiers and walkers in the Beaufortain highlands, a region long known for its summer pastures and cheesemaking. Over time it expanded to include overnight rooms, making it a small refuge as well as a dining spot.
In winter the easiest way to get there is by taking the Bonnets Rouges gondola, while in summer hikers can walk up from nearby trails around Saint-Guérin in roughly 1.5 to 2 hours. The restaurant is open daily from mid-June to late September, welcoming guests from morning until early afternoon.
The restaurant is attached to a mountain refuge that offers simple overnight rooms, so visitors who want to wake up in the mountains can stay the night. A small shop on site sells local products, giving guests a chance to take home something made in the Beaufortain.
