Piazza della Riforma, Main square in Lugano, Switzerland

Piazza della Riforma is a central public square in Lugano defined by a neoclassical town hall that rises prominently at its center. The space features multiple cafes, restaurants, and shops where people walk, sit, and spend time throughout the day.

The space was formerly known as Piazza Grande and witnessed fighting in 1798 when local people sought independence for the Ticino region. The name was later changed to reflect the period when the region adopted new political structures and reforms.

The square hosts several festivals throughout the year, including Estival Jazz and Blues to Bop, drawing crowds for live performances and celebrations. Locals and visitors gather here for cultural events and social meetings across different seasons.

The square is within walking distance of Lugano's main train station and well served by public transportation. Multiple seating areas and an abundant choice of food and drink options make it a comfortable place to spend time.

The square's name was changed in 1830 to mark constitutional changes in the Ticino region that reshaped Lugano's political direction. This shift showed how the location became a focal point for major political turning points in the area's history.
