Lakes Beach, Atlantic beach in Saint Andrew Parish, Barbados
Lakes Beach is a wide sandy beach on the eastern coast of Saint Andrew Parish in Barbados, stretching between two marked areas. The water here is characterized by strong Atlantic waves.
The beach was originally covered with sand dunes and vegetation and has expanded significantly over recent decades. This change transformed the coastal strip into a wide sandy zone.
The beach forms part of a walking route along the coast, where visitors can head north to reach other beach areas. This path connects several coastal zones together.
Swimming is not permitted here due to strong waves and dangerous currents, so the area is mainly suited for walking and observing. There are also no facilities or lifeguard services at the beach.
From April to June, leatherback turtles use the area for nesting, and a nearby lagoon holds one of Barbados' last coastal wetlands. This rare habitat also attracts birdwatchers.
