Harrison Point Lighthouse, Coastal lighthouse in Saint Lucy, Barbados.
Harrison Point Lighthouse is a white cylindrical concrete structure with a red lantern rising some 26 meters above the northern coast of Saint Lucy. The tower sits on rocky terrain with open ocean views in all directions.
Construction began in June 1925 when the governor laid the foundation stone, with operations commencing in April 1926. Since its completion, the structure has served shipping traffic along this coastline.
The lighthouse served as a vital reference point for sailors navigating past the northern coast and remains part of the local maritime identity today. Visitors and residents alike value the location for its coastal setting and expansive ocean views.
The site is accessible by car, though public transportation to reach it remains limited. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes, as the terrain is rocky and often windy.
From 1957 to 1979, the US Navy operated a sonar facility next to the lighthouse to monitor Soviet submarines in the Atlantic. This military chapter remains less known but shaped the site's past.
